Watkins Copicat Mk2 (Early 1960s) - VALVE TUBES - Watkins Electric Music London
History of WEM Copicats
The MK1 and MK2 Copicats were two of the earliest models available!
This MK2 has Valve tubes giving that
The Mk2 has individual push buttons for each replay head. Additionally, the Mk2 includes a record head, three replay heads, and a permanent magnet for erasing the tape, which were not present in the Mk1.
Echo signal record volume control, repeat function.
Updated design with push-button controls.
This gave the MK2 improved usability with push-button controls and added features for better sound manipulation.
These differences reflect the evolution of the Copicat, enhancing user experience and functionality in the MK2 model.
I bought this back in October 2020 with the intention of having the electronics checked and then recovering the case it its original colours, as some time in its life it has been recovered, but I never got round to it!
In December 2020 I had the electronics checked and repaired where necessary by Nick Barton, the then owner of Black Magic Amplifier’s in Devon, Nick I understand has now retired!
I also requested he put in a jack input to give the option of being able to use a foot pedal on and off switch whilst playing or use the normal hand switch control.
Apart from testing it when I brought it home from Black Magic Amplifiers it has not been used since, and I have now decided to let someone else have the pleasure of using it for home or professional use!
The strap is cracked across its width and the lids do not do not snap shut on the catch, but no doubt easily rectified.
It comes a box of new tapes and the schematic!
