Gasket Specifications

  • Thickness: .066″ (1.75 mm)
  • Wire O.D.: 4.560″ (using .105″ wire)
  • Groove Radius: .017″–.018″ if cutting grooves in the head or block

Installation & Preparation

  1. Studs Required
    • Must use high-strength studs to achieve proper clamp load, particularly with our competition gasket.
  2. Surface Flatness
    • Ensure the head is within .003″ end-to-end for optimal sealing.
    • Best practice: Machine both the head and block for perfect flatness.
    • if you do not surface the block, be sure to use an axe sharpening stone with 320 or finer to clean up the deck surface.
  3. Groove Cutting
    • Engines <800 HP: cut grooves in the head
    • Be sure to use 625 studs
    • Always use a .120″ radiused cutter for precise groove formation.
  4. Torque Procedure
    • Initial Torque: 130 ft-lbs at startup.
    • Hot Retorque: After reaching operating temperature, retorque while the engine is still warm.
    • Check Valve Lash: Each retorque further compresses the gasket, reducing valve lash—re-adjust as needed.
    • Final Check: Retorque at least once more before applying full load or RPM.
  5. Proper Lubrication
    • Apply a liberal amount of lube to the nut, washer, and threads so that all studs see a consistent clamp load.
    • Never exceed manufacturer torque limits—fasteners at full torque store significant potential energy.
