Offered is an original U.S. Model 1917 bayonet, manufactured during World War I by Union Fork & Hoe Company (UFH) and inspected at Rock Island Arsenal (RIA) in 1918. This is a genuine WWI military bayonet later modified for WWII M1, not a reproduction.
RIA 1918 bayonet Model 1905 bayonet made
by Rock Island Arsenal, often cut down to 10 inches during WWII. These originally used canvas/leather scabbards (like the M3)
but could be re-fitted with newer fiberglass M7 or M8
scabbards, especially later in their service life. So, an RIA 1918
bayonet with an M7 scabbard is usually a WWII-era
combination where a surplus WWI blade got a newer scabbard for updated service.
