"There is no other coin in the United States series which has such a widespread and acknowledged great value and rarity, or which adds so much numismatic glory to a collection, as the King of American rarities - the 1804 dollar." - Henry Chapman, 1885.
The original 1804 dollar, also known as the 1804 Draped Bust Silver Dollar, may be the most famous and widely desired of American coins. Unfortunately it is exceedingly rare, with only 8 known Class I Originals. It was coined for the purpose of gifting to other foreign heads of state. Though dated 1804, it was not made until 1834 and several more were even made many years after that.
