NOTE: This is one of 4 Large Original, Antique Occupational photographs I have listed as well as two tintypes.
Up for sale is this RARE & UNUSUAL Original Antique Sepia / Albumen Card Mounted OCCUPATIONAL Photograph of a Horse Drawn LOGGING SLED in Winter with BOY / CHILD, 9 Lumberjacks, and even includes a sled "A-frame" pulley loading system used to LOAD THE LOGS on the sled!!! There is a sign with the number 70 on the load of logs. Photo is about 6" high by 8 1/4" wide, while thick paperboard mount is about 8" x 10". Back has writing that appears to have been added many years later and says in pencil "Camp 71" and also says in ball point pen (Michigan) ~ From EZRA BARTLEY's photos - approx 1910. Dating card mounted photos is somewhat challenging, but based off of the dark mount & albumen photo I would say 1910s is probably about the latest (newest) the photo could be, it could be older. Please read the condition description / seller notes for additional info. Also enlarge and look at ALL photographs to see details & condition for yourself. This would make a GREAT addition to ANY Occupational, Antique Photograph, Logging, Winter, Child Worker?, MI / WI, or historical collection.
NOTE: It is RARE because you can plainly see a small BOY / child standing next to the man with white color wool/fur? by bottom of sled. I don't know if the boy was just there because they were getting photographed that day OR if it is child labor that likely guided the horses to their destination. Photo is UNUSUAL because the log "A-frame" pulley system (also on a sled) used to LOAD the logs is plainly visible along with the man that typically operated it, which proves this is a "working photo", rather than the more typical "staged" photos that only show a fully loaded sled. I don't know how many logs are on the sled, but I can count over 50!!!
FYI: There is a CHANCE that this photo is related to the "Scott and Howe Lumber Co" delivery wagon city-view antique photo I will be listing later today. (There was a lumber mill in Ironwood, MI, opposite Hurley, WI with that name -- as well as -- a business of the same name in Oshkosh, WI. I assume they were related.)
S&H will include insurance costs. Photograph will be carefully packaged to help ensure it's safe arrival.
