West, known as Mr. Clutch, played 3 collegiate seasons at West Virginia, averaging 25 points and 13 rebounds per game. He was a 2x All American. His dominance got him drafted #2 overall in the 1960 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. That was a very good pick. He played his entire 14 year playing career with the Lakers, and was an All Star in all 14 seasons. He averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for his career, and won a championship in 1972. He joined the front office of the Lakers upon his retirement and won 8 championships between 1980 and 2000. He later joined the Golden State Warriors and won 2 titles there as well. He has been elected to the Hall of Fame three times, as an Olympian, as a player, and as a general manager. He died June 12, 2024, but will never be forgotten. Legend.
