tel 333 9467027 Stanislaus Kostka (Stanislaw Kostka; Rostkowo, October 28th 1550 – Rome, August 14th 1568) was a Jesuit Polish, proclaimed holy from Pope Benedict XIII In the 1726. Together with the Jesuit saints Louis Gonzaga And John Berchmans And patron from the studious youth.
He belonged to a rich family of the ancient Polish nobility: he was the second of the seven sons of John, Lord of Zakroczym and Senator of the Kingdom of Poland, and of Margarita de Drobniy Kryska, of the family of Palatine Dukes of Masovia. In the 1564 was sent to Vienna with his older brother, Paolo, to study at the local Jesuit college, and in the Austrian city he matured the decision to embrace religious life in Society of Jesus.
His decision to enter the Jesuit order was strongly opposed by his family, but thanks to the support of the college fathers he managed to leave Vienna.
After a brief stay with the provincial superior of the Order, Peter Canisius, to Dillingen, reached Rome where on October 28th 1567 he made his first religious profession before the general of the Order, Francis Borgia, becoming a Jesuit novice: he entered the Roman College to complete studies philosophical And theological and be tidy priest but, having become seriously ill, he died during the night between 14 and August 15th of the 1568.

According to hagiographic tradition, during an illness he received theEucharist from Saint Barbara, appeared to him between two angels: following this episode he would have matured the decision to enter the Society of Jesus.
He was beatified by Pope Paul V October 8th 1605 and canonized by Pope Benedict XIII December 31st 1726. The liturgical memorial occurs on August 15th. The church is dedicated to Saint Stanislaus Kostka. Łódź Cathedral.
