If you look really closely at the item you receive, you may find a fingerprint or two. I test every one of these before shipping to make sure the receiver and camera are paired, since it's always possible even on new items to have one that is not paired correctly, and I want to make your setup process smooth.
This unit will not be as high resolution as a built-in vehicle OEM model. Those cost hundreds of dollars, and this one is $42.95 and free shipping. This is a model that was sold at Walmart and other similar retailers, so it's not an unknown brand, but it's also not going to be as sharp as the camera on a 2026 SUV. When backing up to a hitch ball with a lot of light coming from the front but where the trailer tongue is in shadow, there may not be much contrast. I spray painted my trailer tongues white and now it works great. See photo of sample video feed. The color rendering is not perfect but that's pretty typical of aftermarket cameras. If you see a listing showing a screen with perfect light and color, it's probably photoshop!
Plug in the solar panels to your camera before you power up the receiver monitor for the first time. You will need to charge the camera first by plugging it into the wall until it's fully charged, then hook the solar panels to the camera, then plug in the monitor. If you try to turn on the monitor while the camera is plugged into the wall instead of the solar panels, it can affect the pairing.
To save power, the monitor feed times out after 60 seconds which can be a bit annoying if you're backing up a long way but you just turn it back on and there is no image-loading delay.
