You are bidding on ONEUnopened / Sealed - BBCE Authenticated 1989 Topps Heads Up TEST Pack.
The 1989 Topps Heads Up Test Ken Griffey Jr. is widely regarded as his rarest and one of his most valuable rookie cards. This BBCE-authenticated, unopened pack offers a rare opportunity to pull one.
I’ve only sold a few of these packs over the past several years, and this pack will likely be the last one I offer. This is your final opportunity to own one that is BBCE Authenticated.
Provenance Information:
I acquired a small number of unopened packs a few years ago through an REA auction and had them verified, authenticated, and wrapped by Steve at BBCE. These are the only 1989 Topps Heads Up Test packs he has ever authenticated. They remain fully unopened, untampered with, and certified by the hobby’s leading unopened experts at BBCE.
These packs rarely appear at auction. Recently, another seller sold three unopened packs for $1,600, none of which were authenticated by BBCE. This auction (pack) is fully BBCE-authenticated, so you can bid with complete confidence.
1989 Topps Heads Up Test Information:
The 1989 Topps Heads Up Test Issue is considered one of the most elusive and rare items ever produced by Topps. It was test marketed to a couple of stores in the Pennsylvania area, with an estimated 24 total boxes produced that contained 24 single item packs inside. The display box appears nearly identical to the 1990 release, but the 1989 copyright date is on the box bottom rather than the conventional 1990. The real difference is in the wrapper on the pack, where a player checklist shows a small head shot of each of the 24 players issued in the set.
While Ken Griffey Jr (#5) is the headliner, this set also includes: Tony Gwynn (#1), Ryne Sandberg (#9), Wade Boggs (#11), Mark McGwire (#14), Ozzie Smith (#17), Don Mattingly (#19), Kirby Puckett (#20) and Mike Schmidt (#24).
