This is a very important woodcarving commemorating the launch of The Federal Monarch .

This piece of Art or Sculpture was carved and handmade by the Canadian Master carver / sculptor  Laureat Valliere .

He was a traditional carver whose works of Art are in various Buildings , Cathedrals  and Churches throughout Canada but primarily in Quebec.

He was a member of The Royal Society of Quebec and the Sculpteur lived from 1888-1973.

He studied at L’Ecole de Sculpture de St Romauld from where he became extremely accomplished .

He was known as a Quebecois Master. There are bus tours that travel around Quebec’s landmarks to see his works.

There is a library in Le Vis named after him as well .

He handcarved this piece from a single block of wood , the workmanship is stunning . It is a bit of a cliche , but this truly is Museum Quality .

It shows the Federal Monarch in dock and there is a crane on the quayside and various figures near the launch platform . There is a tug to the left . This ship was an oil tanker vessel that was launched in 1959.

The Sculpture or wood carving is signed to the lower right and it reads L VALLIERE.

There is also the original bronze plaque rivotedto the front .

This is written in French ,and reads - 

Plus Gros Navire Construit Au Canada , 40000 Tonnes , Davie Ship , LAUZON .

It was built by The Davie SB , a ship builders in LAUZON.

The entire piece measures 38.5 x 24 x 4 centimetres , it is clearly carved in relief and is 3 dimensional.
