Japanese hanging scroll painting titled "Man on Barrels" or "Daikokuten on Barrels" by Otake Chikuha (1878-1936). 

These were obtained from Japan during the 1940s while in the service.

Measures approximately 74 x 18 inches. Wooden post missing on base and tearing on the bottom. Has staining spiking fading, peeling, wear and very small rips. See pictures and my many other wonderful scrolls for sale.

• The painting features Daikokuten, one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune in Japanese mythology, standing on two barrels. 

• Daikokuten is often associated with wealth, prosperity, and good harvest, and is frequently depicted with a mallet and a bag of treasures. 

• The painting is a vintage Japanese hanging scroll, also known as a Kakejiku or Kakemono. 

• Otake Chikuha was a Japanese painter known for his Nihonga and Ukiyo-e paintings, and later experimented with more ambitious styles.
