MINTON MAJOLICA LADY W/ FAN LARGE JUG Figural Antique
DATE STAMP 1885 Turquoise
This is a rare and whimsical antique Figural Jug made at Minton in the Staffordshire region of
England.
This MINTON MAJOLICA STANDING LADY HOLDING A FAN JUG,
PITCHER, OR PICHET:
- is modeled in deep relief- the modeling, decorating, and
glaze are well done in the renowned turquoise monochrome colored glaze known at antique
Minton pottery of the period;
- has the subject matter of a well-attired
Lady standing upright with her arms folded across her chest;
- is dressed in a long gown and cape, she wears a
string of pearls about her neck and has a ribbon bow at the waist securing her
bustle;
- is wearing a tricorn style hat that forms the
spout; her long wavy hair flowing at the back then forming into the
long nicely made rear handle;
- holds a fan in her left hand that is held over right
shoulder;
- stands on a rounded raised plinth base with the front of her shoes
peeking out;
- has a glazed bottom slightly convex underside; with the impressed
makers marks of MINTON, D, 1139, and the Minton date mark symbol for 1873. The
foot rim is unglazed.
The estimated date is Victorian Period, circa 1885.

Weight: 2 Lbs., 1.0 Oz.
This MINTON MAJOLICA STANDING LADY HOLDING A FAN JUG, PITCHER, OR PICHET is in very good
condition- noting an old shallow 1/8” x ¼” chip loss to the top rim. Otherwise,
condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, typical crazing,
minor glaze losses, firing flaws, and fretting. Overall, this work is sound,
having no other chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent
repairs or restorations. It is noted that old majolica is not inherently
"perfect" - pieces were still mold formed in this era and as such
have marks like little dents in the pottery which are glazed over. This isn't
damage- this is part of the history of old pottery and how it was made. This
item is sold as is, as described. Please see all photos which are part of this
description. Please note; photos have been taken in indirect sunlight;
therefore, reflections and lighting spots may appear, but do not necessarily
indicate defects.
