This is one of a number of metal detector finds that were found over a period of years by the late Mr Chris Martins (1947 - 2018) of Helperby Manor Estate near York in North Yorkshire on his own land.  He did everything by the book and reported all his finds to which there are a number that have been illustrated and published in various magazines and books over the years. The late " Old yellowbelly " illustrated and identified a number of the finds during the period as well. He found artefacts from all periods including Celtic - Roman - Viking - Saxon - Medieval - Georgian - Victorian and right through to modern items of course. I will be listing them in due course. Some may be common and others rare but all are very interesting and have been well looked after since they were found. Some finds have been treated with a waxy - oily like substance which helps prevent them from deteriorating. Some are "as found" as well.
