Scarce 18^th century Portuguese work on military organization with directives to the infantry of the city of Porto.  The tract discusses discipline, training , recruiting, arming, schedules, diet, and other military  directives.   The author, José Narciso de Magalhães de Meneses was a respectable Portuguese military and colonial administrator.  Between 1806 to 1810, he was governor of Grão Pará (Brazil).  In 1809, he was responsible for the Brazilian expedition that captured French Guiana.

Bound in contemporary mottled calf, spine with gilt lettering and ornaments.  Leaves painted at the fore edge with marbled motif.    

Condition:  Work complete including the blank leaves and the final errata leaf.   In good condition  despite browning and foxing. Blank leaves stained and with ancient signature reading Siqueira.  Binding tired with some loss and minor worm work, mainly at the upper part of the spine.
