This is a rare antique Czech language cookbook published in Chicago.   The cover title translates to “New Home Cookbook” and indicates “Third Edition”.  This title page indicates the author is Emanual Persein Beranek and the book has as frontispiece portrait of Beranek in chef attire opposite the title page.  The only date I find is an 1896 copyright by August Geringer on the verso of title page.                 

This book is 529 pages plus a 23 page index at the end in the original decorative red cloth hardcover binding measuring about 7.5” x 5.5”.  This book has about 1393 numbered recipes divided into sections covering topics such as sauces, seasonings, soups, pastry, drinks, beef, oysters and frog legs, confectionary and more.   Also included are sections with text illustrations on how to fold napkins, carving game and other topics.   

This original antique book is fully complete with solid binding.  There is a bit of scattered foxing to the title page and frontispiece and a few pages have the corners turned down by the original owner presumably to mark recipes.  This is the third edition of this book copyright dated 1896 which isn’t otherwise dated.  This is a great item for anyone interested in cookery or Czech-American history and culture.  Overall condition is very good.  Email any questions.  Thanks for looking.
