Composer and singer Peppi Marchello was the founder of the legendary AOR/hard rock band The Good Rats (from Long Island). The band gained a loyal following in the New York metropolitan area. However, a nationwide breakthrough eluded them. In 1984, The Good Rats were finally history, and Peppi Marchello began working on his solo album. He teamed up with his son Gene, an aspiring guitarist. The original name of the father-son project was Popzarocca. However, CBS Records advised Marchello Sr. to work in the background as a songwriter and producer, while his son Gene stepped into the spotlight as a guitarist and singer. Marchello Jr. explains: "The company wasn't interested in my father. He was older and had run into problems with certain labels and managers. At some point, he decided it was time for me to go my own way." In March 1989, Marchello's debut album, "Destiny," hit stores. It combined top-notch AOR/melodic hard rock with Gene's outstanding guitar playing. The track "First Love" was selected as a single and landed in heavy rotation on MTV.

Gene Marchello looks back philosophically on his early days as a musician: "Our manager worked for CBS and was therefore kind of caught in the middle between the band and the label. He was constantly delivering messages from CBS. The company thought I should sound more like Bruce Springsteen or Jon Bon Jovi. But that's not me. It would never have worked." That wasn't the end of Marchello, however; the band worked on a second album. Gene takes over: "It was the same lineup. But they brought in a few outside producers, which didn't work out perfectly." In the end, the recordings were completed; numbers like "Every Man's Lover," "Wall Of Paper," and the epic "All God's Angels" were to be released by CBS in 1991 as part of Marchello's second album. However, the pressing was canceled at short notice without giving a reason. Thanks to High Roller Records, "Power Of Money" is now officially released, 34 years late.
