Original ticket to the Pre-Labor Day Cocktail Party titled "Meet the Candidates Night" hosted by the Committee on Political Education (COPE) of the AFL-CIO. Held Thursday, August 28, 1969, at the Seafarers International Union Hall, 630 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans. Sponsored by the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO and the Maritime Council of Greater New Orleans.
The event featured live music by Val Barbara’s Orchestra and provided union members and political figures an opportunity to connect ahead of Labor Day—a pivotal time for labor and political organizing in the city. Events like this often served as grassroots campaign stops for both local and statewide candidates, particularly during a transformative era for labor unions and southern politics.
Printed on mint green cardstock and numbered 100A, this ticket reflects the cross-section of labor, politics, and social gathering unique to late 1960s America—just a year after the New Orleans AFL-CIO had supported major civil rights efforts including the Poor People’s Campaign.
Dimensions approx. 3" x 7.25". Light corner wear and surface aging consistent with age. Back is blank.
