This is an antique, primitive, barreled wooden salt box with a back board for hanging on a wall. This box was expertly made with turned wood ridges that are accented with faded green paint and a hinged lid that opens and closes fine. Although not dated or signed, this is likely from the second half of the 19th century (mid to late 1800s).

The back board measures 10 inches tall. The barrel itself is 5.75 inches tall and has an approximate circumference of 15.5 inches. The diameter of lid is 4.5 inches and slightly hangs over the lip of the barrel.

Due to the age of this item, there is some rusting to hinges, but they are still strong and secure to the lid. Inside the barrel, there may also be some small signs of dried sap from the wood. All other signs of age/wear are expected for such an old item and can be seen in photos. There are no cracks and it can still be used as a salt box if so desired!
