It is counted as one of the six ancient kilns in Japan and is said to have a long history of over 1200 years. Shigaraki ware was designated as a traditional craft by the government in 1976. The name Hechomon comes from the Shigaraki craftsman's word for "unusual things." These vessels have various expressions just like the various shapes created by nature and the individual personalities of each of us.
