This is a nice example of an Antique Brown Annamese Stoneware plate. This basic heavy utilitarian piece dates from the 15th Century to the 16th century from what is now the northern part of Vietnam. Annamese aka Tongkinese ceramics were exported to a various parts of Southeast Asia during this period especially to populated areas of the large Indonesian archipelago. These ceramics are also referred to as Trade Pottery since they were produced primarily for markets throughout Southeast Asia. Annamese Stoneware / Ceramics is a well-documented collecting category for Dealers / Museums located around the world. My father purchased most of his Annamese ceramics when he was stationed in Jakarta as a member of the U.S diplomatic corps in the mid-1960's.
