Monsieur Pierre Mendes-France
Former "President du Conseil" and member of Parliament for Grenoble
In 1939, he served in Syria as an Air Force volunteer. In June 1940, he embarked on board the "Massilia" from Bordeaux. Pursued by the Vichy authorities, he was arrested and sentenced for desertion. He escaped on the 21st June 1941 and, after going underground for several months, he reached England where he immediately volunteered for the Free French Air Force. He completed many bombing missions with No.342 Lorraine Squadron and in early 1944 he was summoned to the post of Financial Commissioner in the Algiers provisional Government. He entered General De Gaulle's government as Minister for the National Economy.

Born June 1936 and joined the Armee de l'Air in 1958
He flew the Mirage aircraft when these covers were flow (see front of the cover)
