This is a set of 1779 Arthur Collins “Peerage of England” books. They contain a good portion of the early genealogy and historical accounts of the peers of England. The set originally consisted of eight volumes. However, there’s only seven volumes in this auction. Volume number one is missing. This is the fifth edition of This series. The books contain information concerning birth, marriages, famous actions, religious and charitable donations, deaths, place of burial, epithets and many other memoirs of the early prominent English families.
As noted in the photographs, the books are in fragile condition. All but one have both boards separated. They have leather spines, which show wear and aging. The front pages of the volumes also have foxing and water staining. The interior pages have some foxing and staining also, but as a general statement are well bound and very legible.
