How to Plant Carrot Seeds
1.Choose the Right Location:
Select a sunny spot with loose, well-drained soil.
Remove rocks and clumps to ensure the carrots grow straight and long.
2.Prepare the Soil:
Loosen the soil to a depth of 12 inches (30 cm).
Mix in compost or organic matter to enrich the soil.
Avoid using fresh manure, as it may cause forked carrots.
3.Plant the Seeds:
Sow the seeds directly into the soil.
Space rows about 12 inches (30 cm) apart.
Scatter seeds thinly in shallow furrows (about 1/4 inch or 0.5 cm deep).
Cover lightly with soil and gently water.
4.Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist during germination (7–21 days).
Water regularly but avoid overwatering, as carrots dislike soggy soil.
5.Thin the Seedlings:
Once seedlings are 2 inches tall, thin them to 2–4 inches apart.
Thinning prevents overcrowding and allows roots to develop fully.
6.Care Tips:
Keep the area weed-free to avoid competition for nutrients.
Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
7.Harvesting:
Carrots are ready to harvest in 60–80 days or when they reach your desired size.
Gently pull them from the soil, using a garden fork if necessary.
Enjoy your fresh, homegrown carrots!
