Item Description:

The college football game between the University of Southern California and Notre Dame was held at Soldiers Field in Chicago. Notre Dame would triumph over USC 7-6 before a crowd estimated at over 120,000. Until the Battle at Bristol in 2016 between University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech (156,990), it had the largest attendence of a football game.
Both teams scored in the opening quarter, but it was fullback Bucky Dahman’s fantastic catch on a 28-yard pass from QB Charley Riley that tied the score at six. Dahman’s well-placed kick after the touchdown brought the extra point that clinched the game 7-6.
In attendence at this game were New York Yankee 1927 World Series greats Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig who were in town for a publicity stunt with the two opposing coaches, Knute Rockne and Howard Jones. At a star-studded gala held the night before the game, Ruth dressed as a Notre Dame player and Gehrig dressed in a USC uniform. were guests of Rockne and Jones, respectively.
