Antique and vintage items make nicer than new gifts

Item

This is an extremely impressive and interesting large, transparent, bottle green vase which oozes the eye-catching style of gorgeous Scandinavian design of the 1950s.

It was produced by the Swedish company Ekenas and attributed to their designer John Onwar Lake. He was the main designer and art director of Ekenas from 1953 until it ceased trading in 1976. He was a sculptor who had worked in ceramics for the Finish firm, Arabia.

The stunning piece is a blown glass object with a bulbous form, turnover rim and an applied band of circular decoration around its neck that works visually inside as well as outside the vase. The outcome is a pleasing, subtle and homogenous shape and style.

The vase has a polished pontil, on to which is hand-engraved the name of the maker and the number L933.

Condition

All our items are pre-owned and usually range between 10 and 210 years old, so they inevitably (and reassuringly) show some signs of age and use, which we always do our best to reflect in our pictures.

Although some 60 years old, this impressive vase has survived remarkably well. There are no significant chips, cracks or discolouration. All we notice is an small imperfection on the polished pontil where the maker's mark is engraved.

Pricing

Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre and rareness or on what similar pieces have been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things!

You will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices and the current market. We are always willing to consider realistic offers.
