Calamine lotion is an over-the-counter (OTC) medication that can be used to treat a variety of minor skin irritations:
  • Itching, pain, and discomfort: Calamine lotion can help relieve these symptoms caused by bug bites, chickenpox, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, chigger bites, and minor burns
  • Oozing skin: Calamine lotion can help dry out oozing caused by skin irritations
  • Acne: Calamine lotion can help dry out pimples as a spot treatment. The zinc in calamine lotion has anti-inflammatory properties that may improve redness, lower oil production, and help get rid of bacteria. However, studies have shown mixed results, and a dermatologist may not recommend calamine lotion as a first choice for acne
