"Let
BYgones Be Back"
Vintage ticket stub from the Nov. 22, 1980 football showdown
between Air Force and Notre Dame in South Bend.
The ticket features the tri-captains Bob Crable, John Scully
and Tom Gibbons.
Linebacker Crable played 66 games in the NFL for the New
York Jets from 1982 to 1987. Scully, a guard and center, played 112 games
from 1981 to 1990 for the Atlanta Falcons.
This was Dan Devine’s last of six years coach the Fighting
Irish. The Irish had worked their way to No. 1 in the nation before settling
for a 3-3 tie with Georgia Tech, which knocked them back to No. 6, but a
7-0 victory over Alabama a week later boosted them back to No. 2.
The Irish dispatched with the Air Force 24-10 and heading
into the final week, ND was 9-0-1. They ended in a disappointing fashion,
however, losing to USC and on Jan. 1, to No. 1 George in the Sugar Bowl.
Reverse features a diagram of Notre Dame Stadium with
directions to gates and seating sections.
Ticket measures approximately 3 7/8” x 2 ¼”.
CONDITION ASSESSMENT: Any condition assigned to listed items
is based on my amateur, albeit conservative, opinion, so please examine
available images closely and come to your own conclusion.
COPY LISTINGS: On listings where multiple copies of the same item are
listed, labels associated with a color such as “Item Name-Yellow” or “Item
Name-Purple” refer only to the color of the background used for
identification purposes.
Take care to note whether this auction is one in which
multiple copies of the same or similar items are being sold individually,
and that the price listed is for one of the items rather than all the
items which might appear in a group photo.
