The material has more friction than cloth and you feel the texture. I wouldn't describe it as sticky though, unless you're doing very small movements.
It's thinner, so wearing a sleeve might help with comfort. It's also lighter and can snag and get lifted. However, if you don't keep your mousepad at the edge of your desk neither of these should be a problem.
If you're getting this for productivity, you shouldn't have any trouble. If you're a gamer, I would put a traditional cloth mousepad under it. 31.5" x 11.8" is a common size on Amazon.
