Medal No. 23 – The Writing on the Wall

One night, after the death of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, Belshazar, his son, made a banquet for a thousand people. After having drunk much wine, he requested that the vessels from the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, which his father had plundered, be brought out. At that very moment, a mysterious hand began to write on the wall. Nobody, except Daniel, could understand the significance of the words that were written – "Mene Mene Tekel U'Parsin". Daniel's interpretation of the words was that the downfall of Babylon and its conquest by Persia and Modai was imminent. That very night, Belshazar was killed and Darius the Mede became the ruler. Daniel's prophecy proved to be true. Darius continued the tradition of the previous kings and appointed Daniel as Head of his Advisors.
