Pack of 5 yellow plastic frames to fit Apidea Mating Hives.
Supplied unassembled as one top bar and two side bars per frame.
How to use:To use in a mating hive add a starter strip cut from worker foundation and secured with molten wax, I make a small dipped wax candle from my own beeswax or molten foundation off cuts to avoid it being a vector for bee diseases. The frames can then go straight into your Apidea Mating Hive, Apidea Super, Rainbow Mating Hive or other Mating Hives with Apidea internal dimensions. If you're expanding an established mating hive colony into a super or filling a frame bank for spare food frames then you can use a cut down square sheet of foundation instead of a started strip to save the bees some resources.
Frame Bank:To prepare full Apidea food frames in advance for overwintering or in case of dearth I use an Apidea Frame Bank. Nobody sells these but it's very simple thing to build from scratch, the last photo shows mine. Stock it with Apidea frames containing foundation or starter strips, place the Frame Bank on top of a hive, pop a feeder on top and let the bees draw, fill and cap the frames. Then if you need them for overwintering spare queens they're ready to go straight into your Apidea Supers, they can be bagged and frozen for later use.
I've also made a smaller single row 12 frame Apidea Frame Bank to fit over a 4 frame Nuc (my brood frames are Commercials) which is a handy way to keep an Artificial Swarm occupied.
