Antique Lacquered Wooden Tray Made in Japan

The item was purchased in Japan for about thirty years or a little longer ago at an antique store that specializes only in old items produced in Japan.

The store owner explained the tray was probably made around the beginning of the Showa era or during the Meiji era.

While I have owned it, the item was never used. It was recently taken out of the cabinet and is still dusty. You can clean the surface up and give it a clean look.

I have too much stuff at home and have been doing winter cleaning to reduce my belongings. It is time for the tray to be loved by someone who enjoys using it.

Regarding the thickness of the bottom boards, it is thin compared with the side walls. It is probably around 1/8” at the narrowest, the part showing along the side boards to be seen from the wrong side of the item.

The bottom part is flat when you see it from the front, although when you put it upside down, it has two depths.

The thinnest part is located along the four flanks ( between 1/2” and 5/8” in width ).
