Autographs of 17 1956 Red Sox Including Ted Williams. Beckett Letter of Authenticity.
This is a strange but unique item. This is a scientific program for a scientific assembly organized in West Virginia in 1956.
It measures 5 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches, with 72 pages. There are photographs of the people involved in the assembly as well as their resumes, companies exhibiting at this convention and more.
But the most interesting detail is that there are also 17 autographs/signatures of 17 members of the Red Sox from the 1956 team, including Ted Williams, also signatures of Dick Gernert, Pinky Higgins, Mickey Vernon, Jimmy Piersall, Pete Daley, Johnny Schmitz, Mel Parnell, Dave Sisler, Willard Nixon, Ted Lepcio, George Susce, Jim Pagliaroni, Tom Brewer, Frank Malzone, Sammy White , and Tom Hurd.
Condition: it’s in ‘good plus’ to ‘very good’ condition. Printed on a shiny coated stock, stapled at the centerfold. There is something like white paint smeared on the front cover, there is also some hand written words, written in pencil on the cover which state ‘Look on page 70-72’, that’s where the Red Sox signatures are recorded. There is also a small piece of tape on the front cover over the word ‘American’. There is some tan colored paper adhering to the back cover. This looks like it was once perhaps, glued into an album of some kind, then ripped out leaving some paper from the album page itself. There is also a slight bit of rust on the staples, but the staples are holding together well. There are about three of four creases along the spine.
Perhaps whoever owned this at one time went to this conference, then to a Red Sox game or event and this was the only item he had to get signatures of the Red Sox. Whatever works I suppose…
