c.1880s Paris-made French silver by Jules Guetin, contemporaneous with the Grévy presidency (15 August 1807 – 9 September 1891). It is a solid-silver dessert/fish serving set still in its original blue satin-lined fitted case. The four matching pieces—a fish/pastry slice, three-tine serving fork, and two serving spoons—show crisp bright-cut fern engraving and rosette-terminal handles. Each utensil is hallmarked with the French Minerva head standard mark with “2” for .800 fineness, plus Guetin’s lozenge maker’s mark (J • gaiter • G). Total silver weight of the four pieces (case excluded): ~94 g (~3.02 oz). The silver presents well with light age-appropriate surface wear; the fitted case is worn inside and out with fabric losses/scuffs but remains serviceable. A handsome, usable cased French silver set with clear hallmarks—ready to display or put back into service.
