Janet Clare Great Gulls Quilt Making Pattern JC160

Great Gulls is a striking yet simple quilt pattern, constructed using machine piecing and appliqué.

The paper pattern includes full size templates and colour illustrations to help you add detail to your gulls. I have used my free machine drawing technique but the pattern is suitable for all types of appliqué.

The quilt is layer cake friendly! A layer cake is a fabric bundle containing 42 x 10" squares of fabric, and the top of this quilt can be made from a single Layer Cake. I made my original quilt with my seaside themed 'More Hearty Good Wishes' fabric line for Moda, but the pattern has been recoloured to show how to use my "to The Sea" collection

The full requirements to make the quilt are:
* One 10 inch Layer Cake (contains 42 x 10” squares of fabric) for the pieced front and gulls. My quilt used my ‘More Hearty Good Wishes’ Moda fabric but my 'To The Sea' collection would also work well.
* 1m Bondaweb (for gulls)
* 63 x 63 inches wadding
* 3 ½ yards fabric for backing
* ½ yard fabric for binding
* Quilting thread, neutral thread for piecing and grey thread for free machine drawing

The finished quilt measures 57 x 57 inches.

This quilt was originally made using fabric from Janet's 'More Hearty Good Wishes' from 2015 and repeated using 'Ahoy Me Hearties' from 2017. It has since been recoloured to feature her 'To The Sea' collection.

You can easily substitute other fabrics and many of Janet's collections will work very well. Simply follow the fabric swatches shown on the back of the pattern and choose similar shades and tones.
