Item description
A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Colin OBradys awe-inspiring memoir spans his triumphant recovery from a tragic accident to his gripping 932-mile solo crossing of Antarctica.
Prior to December 2018, no individual had ever crossed the landmass of Antarctica alone, without support and completely human powered. Yet, Colin OBrady was determined to do just that, even if, ten years earlier, there was doubt that hed ever walk again normally. From the depths of a tragic accident, he fought his way back. In a quest to unlock his potential and discover what was possible, he went on to set three mountaineering world records before turning to this historic Antarctic challenge.
OBradys pursuit of a goal that had eluded many others was made even more intense by a head-to-head battle that emerged with British polar explorer Captain Louis Ruddalso striving to be the first. Enduring Antarcticas sub-zero temperatures and pulling a sled that initially weighed 375 poundsin complete isolation and through a succession of whiteouts, storms, and a series of near disastersOBrady persevered.
Alone with his thoughts for nearly two months in the vastness of the frozen continentgripped by fear and doubthe reflected on his past, seeking courage and inspiration in the relationships and experiences that had shaped his life.
Honest, deeply moving, filled with moments of vulnerabilityand set against the backdrop of some of the most extreme environments on earth, from Mt. Everest to AntarcticaThe Impossible First reveals how anyone can reject limits, overcome immense obstacles, and discover what matters most.

About us
In 2002, World of Books was founded on an ethos to do good, protect the planet, and support charities by enabling more goods to be reused. Since then, we've grown into a global pioneer, dedicated to helping people read more and waste less.
Through the World of Books brand, customers can now buy and sell with us! We provide affordable, preloved books to book lovers all around the world, while also giving people the opportunity to contribute to the circular economy, earn money and protect the planet by trading in their unwanted books and media for cash.
Through the B2B side of our business we've developed technology to help charities sell in bulk, meaning they can clear much needed floor space and make money for great causes at the same time.
A new book will be sold once but their stories can be enjoyed by more than one owner. After all, a story doesn't change because it's been read before! Our Sustainable Work
We may have grown, but our mission has never changed. We're a circular economy, for-profit company that protects the planet and supports charities by helping people reuse books, DVDs, CDs, games and more! That's why we've been awarded B Corp status - meaning we're a business that meets the highest standard of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. In short, we care about people and the planet!
