Bizet recorded in 1959 one of Markevich's representative recordings: The original combination of "Carmen" & "Arles Woman" Suite 1 and 2 and Chabrier recorded with the Spanish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1966: Rhapsody " Spain" is finally here! It was surprising that it hadn't been made into an SACD until now but Markevich's masterpiece which stands out among the many competing boards has been reprinted as it was at the time. It means a lot. The freshness of the original analog master tape in the home country has not declined and the sound quality was so fresh that it was hard to believe that it was recorded more than 60 years ago. Especially in these works which are full of colors the tone of the French wind instruments of the time and the atmosphere of the whole orchestra which sincerely responds to the demands of the agile conductor are outstanding.
The performance emphasizes each mesmerizing melody but at the same time each melody emerges organically in the overall flow and at the same time one of Markevich's strengths a lively sense of rhythm is brilliantly displayed. It's a rare sight. This drive power refreshing openness and the fresh feeling of being born just now are unique to Markevich. In addition each instrument of this era by the Lamoureux Orchestra has a nostalgic sound and the tones of the single horn and alto sax are numbing. These performances will forever remain in the hearts of those who listen to them. The coupling rhapsody "Spain" was one of the recordings with the Spanish Radio Symphony Orchestra which was established the year before the recording and Markevich served as the first music director. Although the orchestra is different it is a forward-looking and captivating performance. He was a great conductor who could create unique "pauses" that are important to music.
In addition there is one little-known production episode regarding Bizet's album. When the LP was first released it continued to be released without the 2nd song ``Interlude'' of the 2nd suite of ``Arles Woman'' despite the fact that it was recorded probably due to the recording time at the time. Of course at that time it was unavoidable that it was originally recognized that it was not recorded but even in the CD era it was not recorded until PHCP9537 released in 1997 and without any warning it was recorded for the first time in UCCP9058 released in 2001. Little is known that It was suddenly incorporated at this time and it seems that it was finally released in its original form (so the previous boards are not bad boards). When I ordered a 2ch analog master tape for this release it did not actually include "Interlude" (it was also on the identification list). Although it is different from the time of the first appearance when I searched for the analog master tape of this part that would exist in the warehouse in order to record this "interlude" this time I was lucky enough to find it so this (Actually there is almost no precedent for finding unnumbered tapes and it is extremely difficult. Previously the stereo version of Kuna & Paris Conservatoire's "Don Fans" and "Death and Transfiguration" were not found).
The condition of the original analog master tapes used in the reprint was in very good condition leaving a clear sound reminiscent of those days. The recording by the old PHILIPS is also high level and I am amazed that this quality was left in this era. On top of these materials mastering including direct DSD conversion by British CLASSIC SOUND has been improved with each time of this project and this time's sound source is one of the best in the series. I was. Markevich's sound source which had a unique style of conducting has a very high sound quality effect and even the details can be heard. The sound of each instrument is rich and stable so I hope that the evaluation of each board will rise more than before.
In this reprint we went back to the original analog master tape in our home country and digitized it with high sound quality. Not only this time we used the top flat master so we were able to get a very good presence. The texture and localization are surprisingly clear and clear and the benefits of DSD are added to reproduce excellent sound quality that has never existed before. In production the original analog master tape in the home country was physically maintained and restored by a former DECCA engineer at CLASSIC SOUND in the UK and then directly converted to DSD for this series. Mastering work was done over time in a detailed process. On the SA-CD layer you can enjoy high-definition master sound. The CD layer has also undergone the latest digitization and mastering so it stands out from the sound quality of the conventional board. This series uses the original jacket design and the Japanese commentary includes a new preface commentary by Mr. Ryosuke Masuda.
