Up for your consideration is an Official Rawlings Major League Baseball created for the 1980 All-Star game played at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California on July 8, 1980. The markings on it are stamped in blue ink with Commissioner Bowie Kuhn's signature emblazoned across the middle and the laces are sewn in red thread. This is an original ball manufactured and produced for this specific game and is 40+ years old - with the tonal markings on the leather reflecting its age. This is the rarest of rare all-star game balls, I purchased these in the early 1980's from a distributor and these balls have remained in a box since then with the sole exception of removing the ball to photograph it for this auction - it is a ball made for play in the 1980 game. This ball has never been displayed.
This game was the 51st playing of the midsummer classic between the American League and National League. While this would mark the second time the Dodgers had hosted the All-Star Game in Los Angeles, it was the first time the game was played at Dodger Stadium. The Los Angeles Dodger's first time as host in 1959 saw the game played at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum; the Dodgers' Los Angeles home field until the construction of Dodger Stadium.
The National League defeated the American League 4-2 and Ken Griffey Sr. was named the games MVP and the winning pitcher was none other than Jerry Reuss. This ball has been boxed since purchase in late 1980's and was removed from the box for the purpose of taking photos of the ball for his auction. The photos of the ball listed in this auction are photos of the actual ball you will receive. This is an authentic and official regulation baseball which was produced specifically for the 1980 All-Star game - this is not a reproduction ball as reproduction balls show no signs of aging and are bright white in their coloring.
