Polychrome is originally associated with Ancient Greece and Rome, and describes all manners of pigmented decoration, gilding, and the application of varied color to a three-dimensional surface. Aesthetic Movement late 19th c. The print is dated 1867 and is a fashion advertisement for Alter és Kiss Fashions. Alter és Kiss was a leading fashion house in Central Europe which began in 1829 in Budapest, Hungary, producing tailor-made clothing for high society, including the Habsburg royal family.
