This small pamphlet 32 pages 5x7.5 inches was published in South Boston, MA in 1912.

Many immigrants who came to Boston from Lithuania....Boston was a port of entry so many Lits were not inspired by the Statue of Liberty, had horrible working conditions and left Europe with Socialist values or realized after living here and being exploited in factories or as housekeepers, domestic labor, cleaning  was what many young women did for work, (what many farmland illegals to USA presently have to do). Then they discover that  the streets of America were not paved with gold.

There was a South Boston  press called Kelevis or Traveler as in Fellow Traveler as with communists or Socialists as the term was referring to.   At that time, there was a consensus among many Lithuanian immigrants that  the Workers were going to take over soon as life was too unfair and too many people were suffering because of horrible working conditions.  The prophets of the left, Lenin, Trotsky, Marx, Engles, groups like the I.W.W. had many utopian visions of a better world after an inevitable revolution just over the rainbow.    This was also the era of Muckraker Upton Sinclair who wrote "The Jungle" about Lithuanians being exploited in the meat industry in Chicago.  Radical Celebrity Emma Goldman  the charming Lithuanian born Jewish anarchist from Kaunas was around Boston at that pre WWI moment.   (interesting note: after leaving the USSR, the Lithuanian inteligencia pulled down from  public spaces statues of Lithuanian historical  communist figures like Kupsukas (Mickevicius), but put a statue of  Emma Goldman in Kaunas).   Emma attempted to be an entrepreneur  with an ice cream business in Worcester Ma. unfortunatly,  Emma had no business acumen and ended up devoting her energies to writing and agitating against US participating in WWI like Helen Keller tarnished her reputation doing, landing  Emma  in prison for 2 years.   Ms. Goldman  was also a proponent of  the Free Love Movement and she liked to chum around with that era's Hollywood type literary luminaries.  It was an exciting, if depressing time if you were a young working lugan stiff.

Much of these Kelevis Publications are lost (Boston Lithuanians even had a newspaper "Kelevis" (similar to the Yiddish "Forward" Newspaper)  Kelevis is on microfiche at Boston Public Library unless removed or destroyed?) and many such historical documents were intentionally destroyed when  Anti-Communist Displaced educated came to the US as refugees after WW2 because they escaped the Soviets by retreating  with the Nazi forces to Germany.   They feared Communism and found they couldn't return because the US backstabbed Lithuania by surrendering  Lithuania to the communists at Yalta. Franklin Roosevelt was elderly and dying from congestive heart failure,  his mind was no longer sharp, perhaps senile, which many historians believe caused  the rapid enslavement of the Baltic States by Stalin.  These post WW2 immigrants were actually exiles and had a very different life experience vis a vis the earlier mostly economic immigration Lithuanians who left in Tsarist times, similar to upper class exiles from present day Venezuela, or exiles from Castro's  Cuba.  In America the DPs' found the rhetoric in earlier immigration publications worthless or subversive, there was a vast Lithuania infrastructure in many US cities which they infused with their cultural imputs and political beliefs.    Many engaged in anti Communist US government jobs during the American Red Scare mentality of the 1950's including spying on the Socialist types from the earlier immigration. The seller knew a priest who was proud to have deported an old unsophisticated Lithuanian fellow who was getting Soviet Lithuanian propaganda, just Lithuanian TSR farmer publications in the mail, and believed in that Soviet ideology, he ended up back in the Workers' Paradise.    In the Tsarist era there were many Lithuanians who believed in communism, socialism and other related points of view, and stuck to their political beliefs into old age.

Also the Catholic Church did a lot of work to undermine these types of Lithuanian Language American publications because they were often anti Roman Catholic church or religion in general.  The pre WWI immigrant was a typical farm lad or lass who in Lithuania was often bullied by their overbearing  father to do farm labors, the local  Tsarist official who could ship them off to the military, or by the authoritarian local Catholic priest (Lithuania in Tsarist times was ruled by a rather mean spirited Warsaw Poland Church Hierarchy who were anti-Lithuanian people in general).  Coming to America for many Lithuanian youth was a very liberating experience as there were no authoritarian figures like in the old country.   It's interesting to note that when in 1987 Pope John Paul did a ritual and beautified Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis-Matulevicius he had a Lithuanian Sash - Josta put around his neck in Rome by a proud Lithuanian devotee, and the Pope immediately removed it - (John Paul's mother was Lithuanian so maybe some Freudian thing was going on with him).    Poland and that Pope had plans to bring the borders back to pre WWII status with Vilnius returned to Poland as Wilno.    Very complicated stuff...still going on today!

It's interesting to note: outside the Vilnius Cemetery of Dew's wall,  Rasu Kapines  is a marble stone over the interred heart of Pilsudski, a rose is daily place on it even during a snow storm.  This general, Pilsudski,  after WWI invaded Lithuania and occupied Vilnius.  Why the post Soviet government of Lithuania went to great pains to remove bodies of Russian soldiers buried in Lithuania and not the heart of this arrogant nasty general makes no sense. Duda the present nationalistic  president of Poland salivates over a chance to restablish Wilno, Duda's father or grandfather served under Pilsudski and was part of the military force that occupied Vilnius until it was put back with Lithuania by Stalin.  Duda is not a friend of Lithuania and there is a plausible  argument as to why Lithuania gave up so much to be part of NATO,  they even sent Lithuanian youth back to Afghanistan to please NATO and the US to be cannon fodder like the Soviets did in the 1980's.  The reason being with NATO troops stationed in Lietuva it would prevent Poland from invading, not Russia.  The Lithuanians had a saying when at the start of WW2 after Germany took Poland and the USSR took Lithuania: Our Vilnius, Russia's Lithuania as that led to the incorporation of Lithuania into the USSR as a republic.   Shouldn't the Lithuanian's dig up the heart of Pilsudski send it to that heartless dog's corpse  in Krakow?  They are fearful of angering the Polish state apparently.  Vilnius could easily become like forner Lithuanian city Krakow a part of Poland again.

Returning to the item for sale and it's provenance, there  was an effort by agencies of the US Government since the era of the Pinkerton Raids after WWI to undermine these ethnic Socialist/Communist publishers and agitators,  Bimba for example was a popular and famous publisher of such communist Lithuanian works, always a target of the US Govt.  After WW2 the US Govt.  employed many displaced Lithuanians to undermine these early immigrants' values, points of view, political views, during the  Cold War.  Lithuanian Americans again, today work for Govt.  agencies like Radio Free Europe to disseminate  anti Russian propaganda to the Lithuanian public (in the name of Democracy of course) because these agencies believe the Lithuanian public are stupid and can't parse political propaganda coming from the Russian media.

All Americans are viewed as dummies by the US govt.      75 years after the Victory of Soviet and American Troops against the Nazi in 1945, the anniversary was ignored by the US media in 2020.  It was shameful how the the meeting of the US and Soviet troops at the Elbe which signified the end of WW2 in 1945 was intentionally ignored.   The removal from public memory of the 75th anniversary of the US liberation of the Ordruff Concentration camp in Germany also occurred in 2020.  It was historic and ghastly, ignored by US Mass Media.  Eisenhower toured the horrors of Ordruff but Gen. Patton did not want to get sick to his stomach and refused to enter the camp.   the 75th anniversary (1945) of Ohrdruf liberation, the first death camp the US troops discovered and liberated was ignored by American News agencies, CNN, Fox, ABC, CBS etc.  Instead the Civil War confederate statues became the fixation, or Columbus, this was right out of Machiavelli's playbook on how to control a people by avoiding historical events still in the memory of the living.   The seller knew a Jewish survivor of Ohrdruf  as well as a US 4th Armored Division Liberator who also celebrated with the Soviet troops at the Elbe Meeting.  American youth are being not only fed fake news they are not given the news that's fit to print or broadcast.

If you noticed among the early victims of Covid were many soldiers living in Veteran Homes as in Massachusetts, and New York.  Both Governors did not do their fiduciary duty to protect these elderly warriors, many  died as if in concentration camps not elderly care facilities.  It's a scandal being covered up.   In fact all WW2 soldiers who died or survived covid who were acknowledged by the media to the seller's observations never had references in the News Media about their service in WW2 just that they were veterans (probably not to upset NATO ally Germany or Tokyo..like the war crimes committed by these two nations never happened 'ay?).  Finally, the US Nuked two Japanese cities and then the Cold War was invented.  Today in our present 21 century era history is consistently, methodically  being revised for example Uri Gargarin the first human in space was not even recognized by the US State Department in April 2021 at the 60th anniversary celebration of this historically significant event for mankind.  US astronauts ride Russian rockets to the space station so it's rather silly, actually ignorant for the US not to pay respect to this brave cosmonaut Gargarin.   The Russian head of their space agency responded to the official avoidance behavior of the US State department by calling the US diplomats  "A..holes"

 seems accurate!.  WoW.

So, in reference to this publication from 1912, if you want to try to understand the present and the past it's not a bad idea in this era of Fake News to preserve narratives of those who came here with dreams of freedom and success to find themselves instead exploited, much like the mass of mostly rural people at this very moment who are illegally crossing the now reopened Mexican boarder for a better life to be exploited and also used to take jobs and futures away from American Inner City youth and families. Tragically, most of these illegals are forced to  work under the table and live in toxic conditions which is one reason they are being welcome in droves in 2021 by forces in government and business or do-gooder types like many lawyers who work for cash in the hand, from these under the table illegal low wage slaves to do immigration paperwork.

There is one place in the US where example of this rare  for sale item  may exist, it's at the Kent State archive (Remember Kent State Massacre "4 Shot Dead in O HI O"  as the song went which was not played or acknowledged  for that events 50th anniversary in 2020 by the US Media.....removed from memory by some strange political forces.... Kent State University archive  houses US published worker literature and propaganda like this item for sale.   The seller was an acquaintance of Father William Volkovich (Volkevicius) American historian who wrote a book on the publisher/writer Bimba who in the 1920's was on trial in Massachusetts for Sedition and Blasphemy, if found guilty the punishment was to be hung in Boston Common on a yardarm.  He won his case and with the publicity started the communist Newspaper Leisve.    So after many conversations with Fr. Wolkovich  the seller is quite knowledgeable of the value this type of pamphlet has for the preservation of the Lithuanian American Heritage.    This Boston area intellectual priest,  tried to collect and send to Kent State U whatever he could rescue to preserve the history of earlier Lithuanian immigrations.  There is a catalog of such items as this.  The seller shares the priest's view that these items are educational and of value to the history of the Lithuanian Diaspora, and the people of Lithuania.

Lithuania was independent for a few years after leaving the Soviet Union, but is now part of another union, the European Union and also NATO though not being on the North Atlantic.    It's curious stuff.  The idea of a Brexit, a Lit-exit is absolutely impossible as there are troops from several nations' armies stationed all over Lietuva, and over 12 percent of the landmass of Lithuania is now military airstrips and military installations from Germany, and the US and other countries.   Lithuania has become NATO's Maginot Line in an era of hypersonic rocketry.  So, this militarization of the country is bunk.  If a war broke out NATO radar won't even see the rockets coming let alone shoot them down, an hypersonic Luftwaffe type attack will be devastating!    The result of this militarization has already been devastating for Lithuanian  farmers who can't sell produce to neighboring states of Russia and Belarus because the politicians have turned the government into a nasty gad fly harassing Russia and Belarus....drinking a shot glass of poison hemlock might be the outcome for what was an emerging democracy and today is a submerging democracy....is this the The Face of Democracy in Lithuania?  Is Lithuania now a frowning marionette?  Thirty years after Soviet Occupation ended the answer to these questions is in the hearts and minds of her citizen farmers.  It's over a  century from 1912 when this item for sale was written, has Lithuania taken one step forward and a giant leap backwards?

Basically, this is a very rare item.  At the main Cambridge Public Library next to Harvard University,  there was a large collection of early Lithuanian immigrant  literature like the item being sold, and in the 1980's on advice of "advisors' from the Lithuanian community the collection was burned.  Imagine burning the footprints of early immigrants from Lithuania who had a passion for whatever, but it was a large group and it was their passions,  and is represented in items like this very rare humble pamphlet.  On the other hand, that library has in the last 10 years removed the several floors of stacks which High School students and intellectual wanderers, once roamed.   So, it may be the times.  Boston Public Library still has open stacks, private libraries like at Harvard have great collections, probably not this item for sale though.

The seller is not sure why this little pamphlet published in South Boston for poor immigrant laborers in 1912 deserves or engendered this  petite essay. Perhaps the thread in some people with ethnic or family roots from the past is not so easily broken, still persits as an echo of past generations' voices, nay screams, in some  DNA imprint circulating in the blood or registered on their hypocampus as was claimed by Supreme Court Justice Bret Kavanaugh's  bizarre sexual assault acuser during his bench nomination during the Democrats 2nd lynching assault on a nominee.  We do live in the Brave New World of digital information tech, a misnomer for mind control of voting populations via historical information scrubbing, disinformation by  fake news and other fact manipulations.  As Barny said to the Sheriff in one Andy Griffith Show episode:  "Ya' know something Andy, this whole thing is psychological."
