Antique Rogers Smith Co Oriental Silver Plate 3 Pc Butter Bowl New Haven Ct 4920
|
Up for sale is a beautiful antique (mid 1800’s) 3-piece Rogers, Smith Co. of New Haven Connecticut tall pedestal butter bowl (11” tall, 6” diameter), which includes the bowl, the insert and the lid #4920.The bowl has 4 silver leaves attached to the ends of the round handle and the leaves surround the bowl. The lid has an Oriental theme with symbols, fan and a bird in the reeds. Although we polish, it can always use a bit more. There are still some dark spots, but the tarnish continues to come off so am assuming all of it can be removed with enough cleaning. There is some wear where the ice would go and the knife is for demonstration only, it is not included. For being around 150 years old, it is in very nice condition.Rogers SmithIn 1857, William Rogers and George Smith founded Rogers Smith & Co., in Connecticut, apparently with the specific goal to manufacture a wide range of silver-plated products, including tea sets, ice water pitchers and spoons. The Meriden Britannia Company subsequently acquired Rogers Smith & Co., and both came under the umbrella of the International Silver Company, which was incorporated in 1898. 120412 67-79
