Gravura/Linocut
on paper by Haroldo Mattos (b.1926) after the poem 'Sao Francisco de Assis' by
celebrated Brazilian poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade (1902-1987). This artwork
comes from a folio of 7 linocuts by various artists that illustrate the poems
of Carlos Drummond de Andrade from 1925
to 1951, in an edition of 500, published 1973. The
artwork was published by the Federal University of Minas Gerais on the
occasion of the VII Winter Festival, in celebration of the award of the title
of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University to Carlos Drummond de Andrade. This
listing is for one of the artworks as detailed below, together with an accompanying
copy of the poem.
The
Linocut is in reasonable/used condition. There is minor toning and light handling. The top paper edge and right margin have more extensive creasing and tears, max of 2cm in from paper edge. The rest of the paper is very clean, so would diplay well mounted and framed. Signed in pencil. There is a copy of the poem printed on a separate sheet of the same
size. There are tears and a large diagonal crease across the centre of the poem sheet.
Linocut
measures 29.5cm x 42cm. Both papers measure 46cm x 63cm.
Papers
will be posted in a large tube.
