Illustrating the routes of the Panama Mail Steam Ship Company.

The map shows a historical and whimsical image of North America, Central America and the northerm part of South America, extending to the Colombian Coastline.

The illustrations shows the adventures of one of the passengers, on his transit from San Francisco to New York, including an excursion through Guatemala, watching a cockfight, meeting new friends on board the steamship, and exotic scenes in Central America and the Caribbean.

A second series of vignettes focuses on the historical elements of the map, including Uncle Sam purchasing the Canal Zone from Colombia, Balboa's crossing the Isthums to see the Pacific for the first time in 1513, and other early historical facts.  There are also vignettes showing the indigenous peoples, products and turistical facts about Central America.

In North America, there are a number of other whimsical images, including an armed robbery in Chicago.  Inset maps detail a two day excursion in Guatemala and Charles 'Lindy' Lindbergh's 1927-28 good-will tour through Latin America. At the center of the map a large inset details the luxurious accommodations available on board the Panama Mail Steamship.
