Description: First printing of the first edition of this scarce and strange autobiographical novel. The novel describes the odd childhood of the author, and includes many strange elements, such as her encounter with two Aztec children being exhibited on tour in England. 

Three Volumes. Original publisher's decorative purple cloth gilt. 340 pages (vol 1), 344 pages (vol 2), and 352 pages (vol 3). Original brown endpapers. Subscription labels removed from covers tone vols 1 and 2, still present to vol 3 (see pictures). In attractive condition for its age, with bumping and wear to the extremities and rubbing to the boards (see pictures). Paper at hinges cracked partially revealing webbing (see picture), binding slightly tender but basically sound and square in all volumes. 

Loosely inserted is an interesting page of handwritten notes by the bibliographer George Locke.
