The Optics of the Devil

by Luther Valencia

Most people imagine evil as something obvious. Yet temptation rarely arrives with a warning. It can look ordinary, popular, compassionate, profitable, or necessary. When everyone appears to be doing the same thing, sin can begin to feel normal. But what is common is not automatically true or Optics of the Devil examines how deception works in individual lives and in the larger disasters that wound families, institutions, nations, and cultures. Drawing on Scripture, Catholic teaching, history, and everyday experience, Luther Valencia explores distorted truth, moral confusion, spiritual blindness, false compassion, fear, desire, pride, and the quiet ways people cooperate with evil while believing they are doing is not a sensational study of demons. It is a practical guide to seeing clearly. Readers are invited to examine their conscience, recognize manipulation, resist the pressure to imitate the crowd, and recover the freedom to choose what is true and the Catholic distinction between appearance and reality, this book returns to one decisive question: What does God see when the world sees something else?
