Up for sale is this striking, mid-to-late 20th-century tribal-style Tree of Life or Monkey Tree sculpture from the tribal regions of central and eastern India, particularly practiced by communities in Chhattisgarh (Bastar region) and Odisha.Masterfully crafted using a traditional lost-wax casting technique, this intricate piece features a multi-tiered array of stylized human or monkey figures interacting across an openwork circular canopy, supported by an ornate central column and a decorative pedestal base.

The sculpture features a highly detailed, circular crown composed of interlocking openwork branches populated by nine acrobatic figures in various dynamic poses. Below the canopy, additional figures flank a tall, geometric central trunk adorned with traditional incised grid and textured cross-hatch patterns. At the base, four figures sit atop a circular drum-style platform detailed with woven rope-like textures.

Cast in heavy, solid bronze/brass metal using the lost-wax method. Because the mold must be broken to reveal the final piece, this sculpture is structurally unique. It features a rich, dark brown-black aged patina with lighter golden-bronze highlights showing through on high-relief surfaces, adding depth and age character to the figures.

Measuring 10" x 5" x 18", it is in excellent vintage condition. The dark patina is well-preserved with minor, authentic surface wear consistent with age. No structural cracks, breaks, or repairs detected.
