This is a historically significant posthumous publication. All photographs were taken specifically for this book by Walter Hege in the summer of 1955, the final year of his life. Hege (1893 to 1955) was one of Germany’s foremost architectural and art photographers of the 20th century, celebrated for his landmark publications on the Naumburg and Bamberg cathedrals and the Acropolis. He died before this book was published, making it his final completed photographic project.
