Shoe Shop Fitting Assistant Customer Trying Footwear Ludwig Weitz 1971 Photo

This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 7½ x 10¼ inches (193x260mm).

It shows a shop assistant helping a female customer try on a black slip-on shoe. The customer is seated next to a man wearing a tweed jacket. The assistant kneels on a small stool, wearing a ribbed jumper and a plaid skirt. Several pairs of shoes are scattered on the floor nearby. The background features a floral arrangement and what appears to be ski equipment.

The reverse has several stamps, including a green stamp for 'Heinrich Bauer Verlag' in Hamburg. A blue stamp reads 'Copyright Neue Revue' and credits 'Foto: Ludwig Weitz'. A black rectangular stamp is for 'Features International' in London. There are handwritten annotations reading 'Revue 5/71, S. 16-17' in blue ink and '9219' in red ink.

This photograph comes from a privately curated collection assembled over more than fifty years by an experienced collector. The images were individually sourced from galleries, dealers, auctions, and other collections, with a consistent focus on strong composition, atmosphere, and historical interest.

Each photograph offered has been selected on its own merits from that wider collection. The result is a group of images that are both individually compelling and part of a coherent, carefully built body of work. For collectors, this offers an opportunity to acquire material selected by a discerning eye, whether to strengthen an existing collection or to begin a new one.

This collection is being dispersed in stages, with several hundred additional photographs being listed each month.
