This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 10¼ x 7¾ inches (258x200mm).
It shows five people working at long wooden benches in a brightly lit room with white painted brick walls. The workers, three women and two men, are wearing white coats and are engaged in tasks using various pieces of scientific or technical equipment. The equipment includes microscopes, magnifying lenses, and mechanical devices with wheels and dials. On the benches are several wooden boxes and woven baskets containing small cards or tickets, some of which have the word 'NOTTINGHAM' printed on them. Overhead, three black pendant lamps hang from the ceiling, providing light to the workstations. A framed chart or graph hangs on the wall in the background.
The reverse has a blue ink stamp that reads '5449/4'. Below this is another blue stamp reading 'PHOTOGRAPH BY CHARLES E. BROWN, 102/5, SHOE LANE, FLEET ST., LONDON, E.C.4. CENTRAL 3431.'
