eBay description

Jewellery Making Manual – How to Design and Make Your Own Jewellery by Sylvia Wicks.

A substantial illustrated practical reference covering jewellery design and construction from the beginner's workshop through to more advanced goldsmithing and jewellery-making techniques.

The book begins with workshop organisation, tools and materials before progressing through cutting, drilling, filing, soldering, bending, hammering and finishing. It also covers the design process and specialist subjects including textiles, plastics, beads and pearls.

Later sections deal with mounting and setting stones, catches and clips, enamelling, colouring metals, stamping, casting, engraving, carving and chasing and repoussé. More advanced material includes inlay and patination, chain making, linking and jointing, several forms of stone setting, built-up construction and coronet clusters.

A particularly useful feature is the combination of instructional text with step-by-step diagrams and numerous photographs of tools, techniques and finished jewellery.

The book also contains sections on hallmarking, reference tables, a glossary and index.
