Description

The XF 56mm f/1.2 R is Fujifilm's portrait lens and one of the reasons photographers commit to the X system. Eighty-five millimetres equivalent is the classic portrait focal length, flattering facial features without distortion, and f/1.2 is extraordinarily fast: it gathers around eight times the light of a kit zoom and reduces depth of field to a sliver, so a subject's eyes stay sharp while everything behind them dissolves. That look is very difficult to get any other way. It holds up wide open rather than needing to be stopped down, which is where cheaper fast primes fall apart, and the physical aperture ring means you set exposure by feel without going near a menu.
